The Winter Pockets Phenomenon

During the summer, life seems much simpler. The weather warms up and I don’t wear layers of clothes. Instead, I run around with shorts and t-shirts on. This is not as simple as it sounds. It turns out how organized I am on a daily basis changes with the seasons.

Many accessory phenomenons occur every summer. I wear a watch on my wrist, and it gets too hot. Any transportation device for my cell phone is lost on me, so I end up carrying it in my hand everywhere I go. I am against iPod cases with clips on them, so I end up carrying that in my hand too. I am constantly writing down things on sticky notes and shoving them in my pockets. So now I’m sure you can picture me, hands full and pockets full, and I am officially organizationally challenged. Needless to say, cargo shorts I’ve worn have died early and untimely deaths. It’s a wonder I don’t misplace myself during the summer.

When the winter months come along, I end up becoming more organized because I have more pockets for everything. Cell phone goes in a pocket next to my chest, so it’s easily accessible when I need it. My iPod ends up in a regular jacket side-pocket near my waist so I can change songs at a moment’s notice. Sticky notes, the main organizational tool in my life, can be filed away in appropriate pockets according to later intended usage:

  • coat side-pocket for notes I’ll need in a few minutes,
  • front-left pants pocket for notes I’ll read later on tonight, and
  • left chest pocket in my coat for notes I’m keeping for reference.

It’s like a filing cabinet in my clothing.
