Big Apple Weekend

I took a trip to New York City this past weekend. It was a perfect day of travel, with local food and landmarks scattered throughout the day and plenty of entertainment to amuse us. Things I learned:

  • Tiffany & Co. has six floors. The number scared me into retreat.
  • You can get good deals on handsome cab rides in Central Park after the holidays, especially if the people you’re traveling with are of the same nationality as the stable owners.
  • The Plaza Hotel is being split up into two parts: Two-thirds of the building will be condominiums and the remaining third will be hotel rooms. My childhood “Home Alone” fantasies will suffer.
  • The price of four dollars for a glass of orange juice is customary in local diners.
  • Donald Trump owns the ice skating rink in Central Park and his wacky hair head is on every bottle of water. His hot chocolate is good.
  • Folks on bicycles will run you over on the Brooklyn Bridge if you don’t move.
