It was called "Powerbook" because it used PowerPC arquitecture from IBM. Since they cut the deal and started to use Intel, they could not use the word "power" because of copyright issues. So they had to come with a new name and choosed the word "mac" to give a closer apreoach to the brand. Believe me, for what I saw, this is a huge step for the Apple notebooks. The answer is simple.
