Microsoft Launches Office Live Beta

Microsoft is launching its beta of Office Live, a new web-based Office suite. However, there are some caveats that may make you think twice about all that excitement I’m sure you’re feeling right now. Turns out you already need Office installed for most features. Ick. From SvN.

    Well, Evil Nemesis, I imagine an evolving business plan that encompasses some interesting ideas:

    • Have a hybrid Office suite that works at home and on the Web, have intertwining licensing, even web storage.
    • Eventually offer a web-only service, when Internet speeds get fast enough and more widespread.

    Microsoft has admitted to this plan, but the technology isn’t there yet.
